I'm new to the ways of JJ, so excuse my ignorance, but is it possible that the backstory is for us to play with and will never truly be addressed in the movie or in other post-release documentation... aka the many ongoing theories of Lost?

i think it has somthing to do with the green photo it looks like they were attacking something so that could be the aftermath of that
i think it has something to do with the green photo because it seemed as if they were attacking someone or something also it could be the aftermath of the tower collapsing or the attack in the green one so let me know what you think.
My guess is that the monster ate something like a whale or whatnot in the water. That what the blood is from and that would explain the other new picture on 1-18-08.com that has the huge mass of flesh washed up on a beach.

If you notice when Rob and Beth is on the Wonder Wheel at the end and the camera is pointed to the ocean, you see the fisherman on the boat and the mass of blood aroud him. Interesting.
