Hasbro to make Cloverfield 'toy'

Hasbro, Inc. brings to market the figure of one of the most tightly held secrets in recent Hollywood history: the “Cloverfield” Monster. Cloverfield makes over 16mil in one day!

Cloverfield crushed the other 4 top movies on Friday, and almost brought in 17 million on its opening day. This is great for a January release and Cloverfield is expected to make around 52 over the three day weekend.

UPDATE: Just so you know, I give it 4.5 stars. I think the ending could be better.

UPDATE: Expect it up by 9:00PM Est., Im going to see it one more time today to make sure I didnt miss anything.

I just got back from seeing it a second time. I'm working on a review (spoiler and spoiler free) and they should be posted by tomarrow. The movie was an EPIC win. It was awesome. Not the greatest movie ever, but its at the top of my personal list. If your seeing the movie, I recommend you sit threw the credits (which are like 10 minutes long and the song never seems to end) and hear... well, youll see. Ill be addressing that more specificly in a few days, but I want people to be able to hear it first.

New Chaui Videos - English, Japanese, and Russain

Russian Translation:

Celebration of the New Year distracted the society from the accident in the Atlantic Ocean which happened in the end of the past year. A huge drilling platform also known as the Chuai station collapsed into the ocean and sank to the bottom in several hours. The platform located in hunderds of kilometres from the american coast belonged to the japanese corporation Tagruato. At the moment the amount of people on the place of the accident is unknown. This video was got by news agencies from an anonymous source. Experts will have to investigate what exactly this footage shows. But now we know for sure that the collapse of the platform is not a result of enviromental cataclysm. Some moments of the video show that there was skirmish. All parties releated to the incident prefer to keep silence. We may only guess what happened there.

Some informational sources say that at the current moment there are ships of US coastguard but there is not official confirmation on that from the coastguard representatives.

This is the second video shot afterwards. The people on the video might be the only survivors of the catastrophe.
This story has an important aspect for Russia. The Tagruato corporation has 3 drilling platforms in Russia: the Suizei station in the Okhotskoe sea, Kosho in the Chukotskoe sea, and Koan in the East-Siberian sea. The most of the crew on them are russians. Are they safe from such kinds of incidents? We may only guess who could profit from such kind of attack and hope that interests of mysterious criminals won't be applied to russian assets.

This shocking scene of a group of 3-4 people at the moment of an attack was caught on a mobile phone camera.

This full details about this event have not come in, the (condition is at a standstill?) but, from a helicopter (news liaison?) person filmed it breaking and falling into the sea. 2 Japanese people from Tagruato and 5 people of unidentified nationality are missing (location unknown).

Today is the first time the (news liaison?) event has come to light.

I think it's saying that the people on the boat are unknown, but in these images the Tagruato logo is visible on group of armed men's clothing.
Something about (they) are unknown, or something about them is unknown.
At the end of the video, the lifeboat is fired upon by missiles but no word has been heard from them

The spokesman is just saying that there is no loss of life and the channel is reporting to have received this late.
The families of the missing Japanese people have been notified, etc. The spokesman is saying that this is a difficult situation and that the environmentalist group TIDOWave is known to have been close to the scene (doesn't say on the scene)

The bit about the tanker is hard for me as it has the English from the tanker in the background which makes it hard to pick out the two languages.

It seems to be saying that at the present time it seems that this could be relation to a losing contact with a tanker on it's return to Norway from New York (or may be the other way round)

In the news statement transmitted earlier today, January 2, 2008, for TAGRUATO CORPORATION, the name of one of the missing individuals is Francois Nouvelle, not Francoise Nouvelle as was previously reported. The correct and complete statement follows:

CHUAI DRILLING STATION - TAGRUATO CORPORATION reports that a serious incident took place on one of its deep sea drilling stations, CHUAI DRILLING STATION, located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

A comprehensive internal investigation is underway, but details are limited.

TAGRUATO CORPORATION can confirm that the incident took place between the 26th and 27th of December 2007. No loss of life has been confirmed, but TAGRUATO CORPORATION regrets that a number of TAGRUATO employees and independent contractors who were on the CHUAI DRILLING STATION at the time of the incident are reported missing. Confirmed missing are: Hideaki Sakamoto, Gerhard Ploecker, Tsuneo Matsuhara, Dr. Paul Nightingale, Donald Carter, Francois Nouvelle, Andy Young-Mun. Search operations are in effect and every effort is being made to identify and trace the missing individuals.

A further number of individuals are reported missing, but these reports are unconfirmed at this time. Press-reports are circulating regarding the existance of footage purporting to show the total destruction of CHUAI DRILLING STATION. TAGRUATO CORPORATION has not seen this footage, and cannot comment. However, TAGRUATO CORPORATION can confirm the presence of members from the activist group T.I.D.O. Wave in the vicinity of CHUAI DRILLING STATION. T.I.D.O. Wave is a clandestine group of extremists who have intentionally caused damage to TAGRUATO CORPORATION property in the past, and several of whose members are currently incarcerated.

“…an amazing story: three short and dramatic sequences have surfaced, which appear to show the dramatic loss of a drilling platform in the deep sea. The platform appears to be the Chuai Station, located in the middle of the Atlantic, which sank a couple of days ago, even though there has been no official confirmation of the incident. This image was taken from a helicopter, going toward or away from the platform.
This platform has more than 300 scientists and workers. This seems to show the platform being split, and then sinking in a matter of minutes, when this kind of modern platform is designed to remain floating up to 24 hours.
This is something really extraordinary. The experts are studying these videos, and trying to find out the cause of the tragedy. Some sources even suggest that the platform might have suffered an attack. Tagruato, the Japanese company in charge of the platform, was forced to emit rushed statements, when the sequences surfaced. The spokesperson says that it is known that the Ecological activist group TIDO Wave was in the area at the moment of the incident. He declares that the group has already snuck into Tagruato operations, provoking damage. These images, taken with a cell phone on the platform, sustain this possibility.
Whatever it is, the seismic intensity of the event was registered in the seismological center of Rivadeo, even though the scientists at the center have expressed doubt toward the theory of a provoked explosion.
The impressive speed, scale, and drama of the incident are shown in this last – and terrible – image, taken, apparently, by the members of the crew during their runaway.
These are incredible scenes. We have no news as to the whereabouts of these people, or the cameraman responsible for the images. We can only have the hope that they somehow survived. It seems…”

Approx. 1300 km out the coast of New York - 3 days ago, for unknown reasons - a drilling platform sunk. Recently international News distributed dramatical pictures from the collaps of the platform. The videos show ... (what you can see and what he already said) ... and experts have no explanation.

At the time 355 men were present on the platform. The "Chuai" drilling platform was opened in September 2007 (not so long ago, is it ?) and is one of the largest in the world. It's owned by the japanese bigsize-company "Takhuato". The high-tech drilling-system was developped by the German company "Zwickau engineering" in Leipzig by the Diploma-engineer Dominik Möltgen. We asked him, if the collaps could have been caused by wrong planing.

"From structural reasons there is no proove the the basic structure or one of the security system could have caused such a hugh catastroph. This is not only totally out of the question, it is physically impossible."

Despite the bad quality of the videos from the platform it seems that there has been shooting. "Takhuato" was already earlier suspected to employ a big private army. And Experts are trying to find out if the hasty getaway from crew-members was caused by a para-military attack. Actual informations say that there have been human casualities, which "Takhuato" denies. It is not yet clear, if there have been german people in the crew.

"Enviromental disaster in the Atlantic ocean.
The Chaui station, the petrol platform of the Japan's technological colossus Tagruato, would have been exploded on december 27th in a mysterious way.

Only today, after a week, there are some info/news about the fact, even if the whole thing remains behind a courtain of mystere.

The images which are you watching, have been made during the disaster and the causes of the accident remains unknow.

The Tagruato, in a official note gave to the japanese media, talks about an accident happened to a company's platform and point the finger against the eco-terrorist group TIDO, that in the past would have already made some damages on the platform.

But a curtain of mystere seems to cover the event: some international media are showing images made with a cell-phone by a Tagruato worker.
You can see men with white and red clothes which are running away from something that we can't understand what it is.

From some american sources, it seems that at the moment of the disaster , the seismographers of the East-coast have recorded big and strange signals.
This confirms that something unknow could be the cause of the disaster.

On the Tagruato press note we can also read that the workers of the platform are all saved and alive.

This is only the last bad thing that happened to this Tagruato's platform: in fact the platform have been alway the target of various eco-groups.

Now, the work to understand what caused the end of the platform, will be really hard for the detectives."

I'm french so here is what they say in the french news ...

They say they have some new informations about the Chuai Station. They received images earlier this morning, but they don't know who sent them.

They're saying that everybody was confused about what was happening inside the station, nobody knew what to do. In the footage, they're showing us the armed guy, calling him ''armed commando''.

When they're showing the Tagruato Logo, they're saying that the commando unit is reliated to Tagruato. I guess they're part of the ''private army'' everybody's talking about.

The chinese guy talking is a spokesman from Tagruato (it's not the chinese president or anything like that). He confirmed the incident and says that many explosions occured on the Chuai Station. But he says that nobody was injured (???). He says that TidoWave is behind everything.

He says that there is 7 missing person. And he says that the footage taken inside the Chuai Station is 100% fake.

They're talking about the backstory of TidoWave ... saying that their headquarter is in France. They're saying that in the United States, some associations made lawsuits against Tagruato in hope that they would stop their activities on the Chuai Station.

For the families, the situation is unsustainable. The woman talking is the mother of an engineer working on the Chuai Station. She says she didn't receive any news concerning her son. She says that nobody is keeping her informed of the situation. She doesn't know if he's alive, missing or if the autorities are actually trying to locate survivors. She's angry against the medias because they're not saying anything.

Tagruato has started some kind of intern inquiry to know what really happened on the station. But from now, they will stop communicating with the medias. They doesn't know the exact number of victims

IGN.com has an exclusive interview with Micheal Stahl-David (Rob).

This isn't to say that the character of Rob doesn't get to perform any heroic actions in the film. But still… don't look for Stahl-David to pull any Bruce Willis maneuvers either in Cloverfield.

"He does do some heroic stuff, but I was really interested in him being as much of a pussy as I would be in that situation! I didn't want him to cross that line into, 'Oh, all of a sudden he's so brave,'" he says. "Yeah, the action that takes place and what he winds up doing is in and of itself very heroic, so I wanted to play against that as much as possible. … I'm not a very Bruce Willis type dude, so that probably helps. I just wanted it to be kind of frantic and coming from a place of fear or just absolute necessity."

There has been an altercation at the Chaui Station. "Director Matt Reeves promises “intimate contact” with the monster by the end of the 90-minute film."

Confirmed: You do see the monster
"People think you use the 'Blair Witch' aesthetic to avoid seeing things," says Reeves. "I didn't want to have all that anticipation and not reveal him. The fun thing is you do see everything over the course of the movie in several different ways, but it's filmed heavily from one point-of-view. You move quickly. By the end you have intimate contact."

Hand held: the entire movie is not shot in hand held cameras, but it will seem like it is.
"For the widescreen scenes with visual effects, which require higher resolution, a cameraman dressed like Hud sports the much-heavier hi- res Sony F23 or Thomson Viper."The cameraman was creating the illusion that huge cameras are very light," says Reeves. "It was grueling. People fell."

Fear:
"This movie builds true fear, tension and suspense rather than disgust," Schneider says. "Oren's making pure classical horror."
